On this pageHow a geo targeting proxy works
A geo-targeting proxy with ColdProxy is configured from your username on the user:pass auth path (IP-auth users bind targeting to ports with SuperPorts — see below): you target the exit location of every request with country, state, and city segments, plus the additional tags documented on this page. Country is the primary dimension, and you can stack narrower tags on top of it to narrow the exit location. The targeting precision available depends on the product you're running, so coverage notes follow each dimension below. For the underlying username grammar and prefix rules, read the Username tag scheme first.
How a geo targeting proxy works
Geo segments are part of the key-value username (HTTP Basic / SOCKS5 auth). Stack as many dimensions as the product supports; narrower tags refine broader ones (a -city- tag is interpreted within its -country-):
user-country-us-state-california-city-losangeles:PASSWORDA single static endpoint plus tags gives you geo control with no API call per request:
curl -x "http://user-country-us:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ipThe exact geo segment prefixes are set per product by the ColdProxy admin and can vary between your plans. The values shown here (country, state, city, isp) are illustrative. Confirm the precise prefixes for your service in your client area before scripting.
Country: target a proxy by country
The primary dimension. Use a country value to route through that country's pool:
# Germany exit
curl -x "http://user-country-de:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ipCoverage: Residential IPv4 (both Unmetered and GB Based) covers 195+ countries. Residential IPv6 is USA-only. Datacenter IPv6 supports 25 countries (47 locations), with country and city targeting within that list and an "All Country" random option when you don't need a specific location.
State / region
Narrow to a state or region inside a country:
# Texas, US
curl -x "http://user-country-us-state-texas:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ipState and city precision is most granular on the Residential IPv4 plans. On Datacenter IPv6, add -city- for a listed city, for example user-country-de-city-berlin. On Residential IPv6, target at the level the product supports. On any plan, verify the actual exit with the Proxy Checker.
City
Target a specific city (interpreted within the country you specify):
import requests
proxy = "http://user-country-us-city-newyork:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000"
proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
print(requests.get("https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip", proxies=proxies, timeout=30).json())ISP
Choose a specific ISP where the product exposes ISP targeting:
curl -x "http://user-country-us-isp-comcast:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ipUse the per-service plan API to list the exact countries, states, cities, and ISPs available to your plan before you hardcode values; it exposes Countries/States/Cities and ISPs endpoints for Geo Target plans.
IP-authentication users: use SuperPorts
If you authenticate by IP whitelist rather than user:pass, the username carries no tags, so geo defaults to Worldwide. To geo-target on the IP-auth path, configure SuperPorts: bind a country/state/city/ISP (and optionally a sticky duration) to a specific port range at the plan level. Requests through those ports then use those settings automatically; username tags still override them when present.
# IP-auth + a SuperPort range pinned to US: no username tags needed.
# Use the IP:PORT shown in your client area (e.g. 203.0.113.10:30000).
curl -x "http://203.0.113.10:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip
# e.g. ports 30000-31000 configured as US + 10-minute stickySuperPorts has its own management API for defining these ranges. See Sticky vs rotating sessions for binding session behavior to ports.
Verify the exit location
Geo tags express intent; always confirm the realized location. Run the Proxy Checker (reachability, exit IP, and location) or My IP against your configured username before relying on it in production.
curl -x "http://user-country-us-city-chicago:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip
