On this pageWhat you are buying with an unmetered residential proxy
This guide shows you how to set up an unmetered residential proxy on ColdProxy's speed-tiered Residential IPv4 network. You buy a fixed Mbps speed tier with unmetered traffic, route through more than 195 countries, and connect over the same per-service gateway as every other ColdProxy plan. Follow the steps below to set up your credentials, host, and port, then send your first request and switch between rotating and sticky sessions. The full product overview lives at /proxy/residential-ipv4-unlimited/, and current speed-tier pricing is on the pricing page.
What you are buying with an unmetered residential proxy
Residential IPv4 (Unmetered), sold as "Premium Residential Geo Target IPv4 (Unmetered)", is a speed-tiered residential proxy product. You choose a throughput tier measured in Mbps, and that tier defines your plan. "Unmetered" means your throughput is governed by the Mbps speed tier rather than a gigabyte allowance; it does not mean unlimited speed. Pick a tier that matches your concurrency and request rate.
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Billing model | Mbps speed tier |
| Geo coverage | 195+ countries, geo-targetable |
| Sticky session range | 5 seconds to 24 hours |
| Billing periods | Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly |
| Protocols | HTTP, HTTPS (TCP); SOCKS5 (TCP and UDP) |
| Authentication | User:Pass and/or IP whitelist |
This is the speed-tier (Mbps) Residential IPv4 product, with unmetered traffic governed by your speed tier rather than a per-GB quota. If your traffic volume is predictable and you would rather pay per gigabyte on a monthly pack, see Residential IPv4 (GB Based) instead. For the full comparison, read Unmetered vs GB-Based Residential IPv4.
Connection details
Every Residential IPv4 (Unmetered) plan connects through its own per-service gateway:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com2312 is the service/package ID of the plan you purchased. Use any port in the 30000–34999 range; the examples below use 30000. All three protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS5) run on the same gateway and are auto-detected; you do not pick a protocol or a separate port per protocol.
The canonical proxy string is four colon-separated fields:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000:USERNAME:PASSWORDMost HTTP clients also accept the URL form USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000. For the full gateway, port-range, and authentication reference, see How to Connect and Authentication.
Residential IPv4 (Unmetered) setup starts automatically after payment clears. Allow up to 10 minutes, and connect as soon as setup completes. See Activation and setup times.
Connect example
curl -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"import requests
proxy = "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000"
proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
resp = requests.get("https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip", proxies=proxies, timeout=30)
print(resp.json())Confirm the exit IP, country, and reachability with Proxy Checker and My IP.
Geo-targeting and sessions
Residential IPv4 (Unmetered) supports the username tag scheme when you authenticate with User:Pass. The plan supports country, state, and city targeting across 195+ countries; the table below shows which username tags apply:
| Tag | Applies | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
-country- |
Yes | Target one of 195+ countries (lowercase ISO alpha-2 code, e.g. us). |
-state- / -city- |
Yes | Narrow within a country. |
-isp- |
Yes | Restrict to a specific ISP. |
-session- + -time- |
Yes | Hold a sticky IP (both tags required). |
-identifier- |
No | Deterministic IP pinning is available only on the IPv6 plans; hold an IP here with -session- + -time- (up to 24 hours). |
The literal tag prefixes are configured per product. The grammar and examples here are accurate, but confirm the exact prefix tokens for your plan in your client area before going to production. See the Username Tag Scheme page for the full grammar.
Rotating residential proxy example (country-targeted)
No -session-/-time- pair means each request rotates to a fresh US IP; this is the default rotating residential proxy behavior, ideal for spreading public web data collection or SEO monitoring across many addresses:
import requests
username = "user-country-us"
proxy = f"http://{username}:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000"
proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
print(requests.get("https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip", proxies=proxies, timeout=30).json())Sticky session example (5s–24h)
Residential IPv4 (Unmetered) holds a sticky IP for 5 seconds up to 24 hours. Sticky turns on only when both -session- and -time- are present:
curl -x "http://user-country-us-session-481516-time-30m:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"Providing only -session- or only -time- does not create a sticky session; the connection keeps rotating. The 24-hour ceiling is specific to the Residential IPv4 plans; the IPv6 products allow sticky sessions up to FOREVER. See Sessions: Sticky vs Rotating and the blog guide IP Rotation: Rotating and Sticky Proxies Explained.
IP-authenticated traffic
If you authenticate by IP whitelist instead of User:Pass, requests are issued in IP:PORT form and geo defaults to Worldwide; there is no username to carry tags. To pin a country, state, city, or sticky window for IP-auth traffic, bind those settings to port ranges with SuperPorts.
Choosing your speed tier
Because this plan is throughput-based, the right tier depends on how many concurrent connections you run and how aggressive your request rate is. If a tier becomes a bottleneck, you can raise it from the client area or the Customer Plan API (Upgrade Speed uses account credit, with no new invoice; a successful upgrade can reboot the proxy server in the background, so verify your proxies before resuming automation). To compare the speed-tier and traffic-pack models before you buy, read Proxy Pricing Models Explained.
