On this pageWhat you are buying with the GB-based residential proxy
This guide explains how to set up ColdProxy's GB-based residential proxy, the pay-per-gigabyte Residential IPv4 service. You buy a monthly traffic pack, route through more than 195 countries, and connect over the same per-service gateway as every other ColdProxy plan. The steps below walk through authentication, the gateway endpoint and ports, how GB usage is counted, how to top up bandwidth from account credit, and how to connect with username tags so you can send your first request. The full product overview lives at /proxy/residential-ipv4-gb/, and current traffic-pack pricing is on the pricing page.
What you are buying with the GB-based residential proxy
Residential IPv4 (GB Based), sold as "Premium Residential Geo Target IPv4 (GB Based)", bills by traffic volume. You buy a monthly pack measured in gigabytes, and you draw down that allowance as you make requests. It uses the same residential network and the same 195+ country targeting as the unmetered plan; the difference is purely the billing model and the billing period.
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Billing model | Monthly traffic packs (per-GB) |
| Geo coverage | 195+ countries, geo-targetable |
| Sticky session range | 5 seconds to 24 hours |
| Billing periods | Monthly only |
| Protocols | HTTP, HTTPS (TCP); SOCKS5 (TCP and UDP) |
| Authentication | User:Pass and/or IP whitelist |
This plan is billed monthly only; it does not offer hourly, daily, or weekly buying. If you would rather not track gigabytes and prefer a speed-tier (Mbps) model, see Residential IPv4 (Unmetered). The decision guide Unmetered vs GB-Based Residential IPv4 walks through when each model wins.
How GB usage is counted
Usage is measured as the total traffic that passes through the proxy for your requests: both the bytes you send and the bytes you receive, including request and response headers, not just the response body. Heavier pages, large media, and chatty retries all consume more of your pack than lightweight API calls.
You can read your live consumption at any time from the client area or the Customer Plan API:
- Usage returns current GB statistics for the plan.
- Bandwidth Options lists the bandwidth amounts available to add.
- Buy Bandwidth adds more GB to the current pack.
Keep your traffic lean to stretch a pack: request only the resources you need, avoid downloading large assets you will discard, and cache where possible. Predictable, targeted workloads (price monitoring and ad verification) fit the GB model well because the per-run volume is easy to forecast.
Buying extra GB
When a pack runs low, top it up without waiting for the next billing cycle. Bandwidth top-ups are paid from your account credit, so they apply immediately and do not generate a separate invoice. Use Bandwidth Options to see what is available, then Buy Bandwidth to add it, from the client area or the Customer Plan API. (One plan-API note: the reboot action is not available on this product; it applies to the speed-tier plans only.)
Each purchase is a separate, independent GB allocation stacked on top of your current plan. It does not change your plan or move its renewal date; the gigabytes are added to what you already have, processed instantly from account credit. Buy as many top-ups as you need; they accumulate on the same service.
If a pack is exhausted, requests stop succeeding until you add bandwidth or the pack renews. Monitor Usage programmatically and top up before you hit zero so production jobs do not stall.
Connection details
Residential IPv4 (GB Based) connects through its own per-service gateway:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com2312 is the service/package ID of the plan you purchased. Use any port in the 30000–34999 range (30000 in the examples). All three protocols run on the same gateway and are auto-detected. The canonical proxy string is:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000:USERNAME:PASSWORDMost clients also accept USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000. For the full gateway and port reference, see How to Connect; for User:Pass versus IP whitelist, see Authentication.
Residential IPv4 (GB Based) activates instantly after payment clears. You can connect when your service is ready in your client area. See Activation and setup times.
Connect example
curl -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"import requests
proxy = "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000"
proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
resp = requests.get("https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip", proxies=proxies, timeout=30)
print(resp.json())Verify the exit IP and location with Proxy Checker and My IP.
Geo-targeting and sticky vs rotating sessions
This plan supports the username tag scheme under User:Pass auth, with the same 195+ country reach and country, state, and city targeting as the unmetered plan. The choice between a sticky vs rotating session is controlled by tags: leave the tags off and each request rotates to a fresh IP; add both -session- and -time- to hold a sticky IP for 5 seconds to 24 hours. Stickiness turns on only when both tags are present. Deterministic IP pinning with -identifier- is available only on the IPv6 plans, so a sticky session is how you hold an IP on this plan.
curl -x "http://user-country-us-state-ny-city-newyork-session-481516-time-15m:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"The literal tag prefixes are set per product; confirm the exact prefix tokens for your plan in the client area before production use. See the Username Tag Scheme page for the full grammar, and Geo-Targeting for the targeting dimensions.
If you authenticate by IP whitelist, requests are issued in IP:PORT form and geo defaults to Worldwide. Use SuperPorts to bind country/session/sticky behavior to port ranges for IP-auth traffic.
