This guide shows you how to set up a residential IPv6 proxy on ColdProxy's USA-only IPv6 network. You buy a Mbps speed tier, the plan includes a /32 subnet, and sticky sessions can hold an IP indefinitely. It connects over the same per-service gateway as every ColdProxy plan, with one critical prerequisite: your target must publish IPv6 addresses or be served by a supported CDN. The steps below cover authentication, the gateway endpoint and ports, the reachability caveat, and how to verify your exit IP. The full product overview lives at /proxy/residential-ipv6/, and current speed-tier pricing is on the Residential IPv6 pricing page.
What you are buying
Residential IPv6 is a speed-tiered residential proxy product on the IPv6 address family. You choose a throughput tier in Mbps, the plan includes a /32 subnet of residential IPv6 space, and coverage is United States only. Sticky sessions can be held from 5 seconds up to FOREVER, which suits long-lived workflows that need a stable IP.
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Billing model | Mbps speed tier |
| Coverage | USA only |
| Included | /32 IPv6 subnet |
| Sticky session range | 5 seconds to FOREVER |
| Billing periods | Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly |
| Routing | CDN-aware IPv6 reachability for supported CDN-fronted domains |
| Protocols | HTTP, HTTPS (TCP); SOCKS5 (TCP and UDP) |
| Authentication | User:Pass and/or IP whitelist |

Check IPv6 reachability before you buy
Many websites are IPv4-only (they publish no AAAA DNS record), so an IPv6 proxy cannot reach them unless a supported CDN serves them. Before buying Residential IPv6, check your target with the free IPv6 Checker: it should publish IPv6 addresses or be served by a supported CDN (see below). If you are unsure, test on an hourly plan first. If it has neither, choose a Residential IPv4 plan instead (Unmetered or GB Based).
The plan includes CDN-aware IPv6 reachability: for supported CDN-fronted domains (for example sites behind Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly, or Amazon CloudFront) that publish no AAAA record of their own, ColdProxy's CDN-aware reachability keeps supported requests on IPv6, even without a published AAAA record. See IPv6 reachability for how to diagnose targets.
Confirmed IPv6-compatible platforms include Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Bing, Yahoo, Netflix, and LinkedIn. For anything else, verify with the checker first. The IPv6 Proxy Compatibility Checklist is a good pre-flight read.
Connection details (residential IPv6 proxy setup)
Residential IPv6 connects through its own per-service gateway:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com2312 is the service/package ID of the plan you purchased. Use any port in the 30000–34999 range (30000 in the examples). HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5 run on the same gateway and are auto-detected. The canonical proxy string is:
gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000:USERNAME:PASSWORDMost clients also accept USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000. See How to Connect and Authentication for the full reference.
Residential IPv6 activates instantly after payment clears. You can connect when your service is ready in your client area. See Activation and setup times.
Connect example
Use an IPv6-capable echo endpoint to confirm you are exiting over IPv6:
curl -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api6.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"import requests
proxy = "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000"
proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
# This endpoint returns an IPv6 address when the request exits over IPv6
resp = requests.get("https://api6.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip", proxies=proxies, timeout=30)
print(resp.json())Confirm IPv6 reachability, the exit IP, and location with Proxy Checker and My IP.
Geo-targeting and sessions
Coverage is USA only, so country-level targeting is not the point of this plan; the value is the included /32 subnet of US residential IPv6 address space. Under User:Pass auth, the username tag scheme controls session behavior, and sticky sessions can be held from 5 seconds to FOREVER. A timed sticky session uses -session- and -time-; the FOREVER hold is the -identifier- pin shown below, not a -time- value:
curl -x "http://user-session-481516-time-2h:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api6.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"For a deterministic, stateless IP pin (the same identifier always maps to the same IP, with no session lifetime to manage), use -identifier-. This is the username format the client area generates, where USERNAME is your service username and the identifier value stays as issued; see IP pinning on IPv6 plans:
curl -x "http://USERNAME-identifier-mq8hhadw1mbdj50:PASSWORD@gw-2312.coldproxy.com:30000" \
"https://api6.vipv6proxy.com/api/checker/my-ip"The literal tag prefixes are set per product; confirm the exact prefix tokens for your plan in the client area before production use. A timed sticky session turns on only when both -session- and -time- are present; see Sessions: Sticky vs Rotating.
If you authenticate by IP whitelist, requests are issued in IP:PORT form and you cannot attach per-request username tags. Use SuperPorts to bind session and sticky behavior to port ranges for IP-auth traffic.
